The first photo reminds me of repurposed train tracks for cycling pathways, which also tends to be nice as the grade will never be more than >3.

@bencardoen That's correct. It's the Springwater Corridor rail trail. This was my first time on the segment between the I-205 path and downtown Portland (8.6mi/13.6km). I previously rode on it between I-205 and Gresham (5.2mi/8.4km). There's still another segment from Gresham east to the town of Boring (7.4mi/11.9km) which I haven't done yet. The consistent slope is different from riding other parts of East Portland which is hilly with scattered cinder cone volcanoes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springwater_Corridor
