When 1:1 isn’t enough. I took this photo more than eight years ago with my smartphone. I don’t want to give up my ‘real’ camera - I love discovering new worlds through the viewfinder. But sometimes I do wonder whether it’s worth hauling all that gear around. At least not for the kind of images I make and enjoy. I almost never sharpen anything, and I even add grain on purpose. Still, the big camera is simply fun to use, and that makes up a large part of my motivation. There is something about raising a viewfinder to your eye, letting the world narrow and deepen at the same time. It feels intentional, as if telling the brain: now we photograph. No smartphone can replace that. #Photography #BlackAndWhite #Unsquare

Beautiful photo! Even if I have more reasons that only that to use a interchangeable lens camera, I feel the same about looking into the viewfinder instead of the screen of a phone or even the back display, be it an optical or electronic viewfinder. It gives a more real sense of photography in a way that is hard to explain.

@arcturus@pixelfed.social Absolutely! There’s a different kind of presence when you look through a viewfinder. Hard to explain, easy to feel.
