Vulpy

Have I gone too far? I edited this image last night. Today I thought, maybe I should try to reveal a few more details in the shadows - it looks a bit odd down there. I couldn’t quite manage it, so I looked at the original again - or at least what the RAW editor spits out by default, not the actual bitstream. 😉 I was surprised! I barely recognized the image: the mood, the crop, everything had changed. It’s wild how deep you can get into editing, to the point where the original (whatever that even means) completely fades from view. But I followed my vision, the way a potter sees the vessel already within the clay. In that sense - no, I haven’t gone too far. #Photography #BlackAndWhite

@Vulpy Not too far in my eyes, but then I don’t know what you saw taking the picture. 😊

@wimi@social.spejset.org And that’s exactly the crux of it - you’ll never truly know what I saw when I took the picture, just as I don’t know what you’re seeing now as you look at it. But I can tell you this: I had those mountains in mind, their misty clouds swirling around them, the delicate play of light and shadow drifting across the ridges. Of course, none of that was quite so vivid in the RAW file. And after three years, even my memory has softened at the edges. But the feeling remained - and that’s what I tried to carve out of the pixels.

@Vulpy And that is the best way in my opinion. I am the most satisfied when I see the finished picture in my head before I take it and the edit is fast and turns out as I saw it beforehand.
